Heartbreak struck the Green Bay Packers as quarterback Malik Willis was forced to leave the game against the Baltimore Ravens due to an apparent shoulder injury. This unfortunate event unfolded midway through the fourth quarter, with the Packers trailing at 34-24. Willis, after showing visible discomfort, quickly headed to the locker room.
Replacing Willis was third-string quarterback Clayton Tune, who had just been added to the active roster due to an injury to Jordan Love. Tune's debut didn't go as planned, as he threw an interception on his very first pass attempt.
Before the injury, Willis was having a stellar game, his second start of the season. He completed an impressive 18 out of 21 passes, accumulating 288 yards and a touchdown. He was also a threat on the ground, rushing for 60 yards on nine attempts and scoring two additional touchdowns.
This marked Willis's sixth career start and his third in two seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Interestingly, the Packers had a perfect 2-0 record in games where Willis started last season. The Liberty alum has played in four games this season, although two were in a mop-up role.
But here's where it gets controversial... In his fourth season of professional football, Willis has showcased impressive efficiency, completing 86% (30 out of 35) of his passes for 422 yards and four touchdowns without throwing any interceptions. He's also added 123 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground.
The Green Bay Packers currently hold a record of 9-5-1. A loss in this game would hand the NFC North crown to the Chicago Bears, who are at 11-4. While the Packers have already secured a playoff spot, the Baltimore Ravens are in a more precarious position. Entering Saturday night's game with a 7-8 record, they needed a win at Lambeau to keep their AFC North hopes alive.
And this is the part most people miss... The Pittsburgh Steelers could secure their division title with a win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. However, if the Steelers lose to the Browns, it would set up a winner-take-all showdown between the Steelers and Ravens in Week 17.
